1. Team JO (4-1) - Team JO continues to do something every team aspires to achieve, yet few succeed. They seem to always be able to maximize individual talents and gel it together for one smooth running team. Ryan Harrison’s offensive abilities continue to inspire, Jack O’Neils unique ability to lead and beef opponents seems to always calm his team down so they’re always playing to their best abilities, and I’m sure we’d be fired from this position if we didn’t acknowledge the gritty and dominant work down low that’s become commonplace for Eamon Kelly and Brody Muck. Despite a heartbreaking loss to the surging Team A-Ryan, I think it goes without saying that this team will be making a deep playoff run this year, and if they continue to play as they have, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the championship.

2. Team Simon (4-1). Week in and week out, Team Simon never fails to execute. They have many talented players on this team, led by Curly and his absolute eye-catching basketball abilities. This fan-favorite is simply just fun to watch. The loss is a slight cause for concern, but Team Simon has shown in the past they’re capable of grinding a dub when a player is not performing to their usual abilities. Curly has cemented himself as a top-3 player in this league, and we don’t see him ever playing that poorly again. It’s worth noting the impact that 6th man of the year front-runner Alex Alvizu always seems to spark his teammates. Whether it’s Alvizu’s smooth 3 pointer or dominant driving, the team just elevated their games to match his energy. Neal Kelly continues to go the extra mile on defense and grabbing a rebound. His easygoing and fun play style just seems to throw others off their game and makes him a fan-favorite. Bryce Schefflers driving abilities always opens up shots for Curly and that is obviously a recipe for success. This team just continues to play to each individual strengths and that’s why they’re obviously one of the favorites to make a run for a PBL title.

3. Team Raz (3-2) - The ranking committee would like to acknowledge a mistake we made in last weeks rankings. We compared Captain Zak Razik to Zach Lavine and the bulls. However, after what we saw these last two weeks, we were clearly wrong. It’s become clear this team is more like today’s Phoenix Suns. Razik seems content taking every single shot for his team and whatever happens, happens. While sure, this strategy might win a couple games and he might impress a couple people, but I just don’t see it taking them very far. Like Devin Booker, it’s dope when Raz is putting up 35+, but a loss is still a loss. If it weren’t for the continuing stellar ball handling from Luke Kuhn, this team might honestly find itself dead last in the rankings. While Luke might not have the best shot in the world, it doesn’t really matter when Raz is chuckin up the ball every possession. Issac Heaton and Matt Finn continue to adequately handle the work down low. If Raz would just stop shooting so much, this team can easily make a statement come playoff time.

4. Team A-Ryan (2-3) - This squad has climbed themselves out of the winless abyss and up the power rankings. The roster before this recent spirt was simply an unimpressive and underutilized group of men. We are not quite sure what has changed but they look like an inspired new team, ready to make a statement. On a hot three game win streak, Team A-Ryan has been successful for many reasons. Whether it’s each player showing up and scoring, Mark’s dominate boards, or Declan’s broken shot landing almost every time, it sees they have figured it out. The main focus of this team going forward should be to limit the easy mistakes like layups and other preventable turnovers. Anthony Ryan has really stepped up as a leader leading us to believe this team could be a possible Cinderella story candidate come postseason. We will have to wait and see if this teams got what it takes.

5. Team Laboda (3-2) - A pretty mediocre couple of weeks for this team. The core of their offense continues to revolve around Rice’s playmaking ability. Unfortunately, in this league a well rounded offense is the only way to grind out wins. In the coming weeks we will need to see a secondary scorer show up for this team to rise in the rankings. One aspect of this teams game that is reliable day in day out is the glass work by the men in the paint. Nolan, Getka, and Foss continue to prove themselves as elite rebounders which can possibly propel this team forward. Time of possession is one of the ways this team will have to outmatch their opponents. Their drop in the rankings is due to their only recent win coming over a ragtag, makeshift squad led by a undersized and under qualified Joey Scavelli, who managed to hit the top of the backboard a shocking 5 times in a single game.

6. Team McCurdy (2-3) - To the readers of this power rankings, if you’re unaware of who is on this team, it seems as though so is Captain Luke McCurdy. The roster they fielded in their last game was a joke. Yet at the same time, they still found themselves down one possession at halftime. Phil Bucko’s 3-pointer and solid all around play from captain McCurdy keeps this team in games and allows them to sneak a couple wins here and there. If they can just field a consistent roster every week, they can start to build some chemistry and consistently win. But as of right now, this team has no real shot at winning this years PBL.

7. Team TC (1-4) - The talents of TC and Brian Chmiel are unquestioned, however this team just seems to play with no passion. In their last game, they gave up entirely, even when a comeback, while unlikely at the time, was still possible. Brian Chmiel has one of the best shots in the league, yet he doesn’t get the ball nearly enough. Their current offensive strategy just seems to be TC driving and tossin up a floater. Alex Harmon has a very dangerous 3 pointer and needs to be utilized. This team has enough talent to be very good, they just need to play as a unit and communicate better.

8. Team Buzz (1-4) - This is a team that simply lacks leadership. Same team, same story. Mike Wilms is putting the team on his back every week and it’s frankly just sad to see. His talent is unquestioned and impressive, but when he’s getting double teamed, he simply has no support. Buzz is clearly nursing a completely fictional injury to avoid having to step on the court and getting posterized. One bright spot for this, dare we even call it a basketball team, is Kyle, who has debatably one of the best rebounding skills in the league. Frank continues to bank in 3s with the luck of god on his side. Not much is expected to change in this team in the coming weeks, likely to stay at the bottom of the rankings.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
