A local man is alleging that police used excessive force during a routine traffic stop. As a result of the altercation, he was left with a fractured wrist and lacerations to his arms and face. During a news conference with his attorney, Keith O’Brien, a white Centerville resident, says that he was pulled over for a burnt-out headlight Saturday evening. O’Brien stated that as he reached for his wallet to show his driver’s license, the Centerville officer started to yell at him and then forcefully removed him from his car. O’Brien alleges that the officer pushed him to the ground and violently placed him in handcuffs, resulting in the fracture to his wrist. O’Brien’s vehicle was then searched, and he was released after being cited for disorderly conduct. O’Brien’s attorney said that he believed that “this (was) one of the most egregious incidents of police violence Centerville has ever seen.”
Officer Jamal Robinson, a black Centerville officer, said that O’Brien appeared to be under the influence and that he removed O’Brien from his vehicle because he believed that he was reaching for a weapon. Officer Robinson claimed that he believed that O’Brien posed a significant threat to his safety and his actions were warranted. Robinson maintains that O’Brien’s injuries were not due to excessive force, but rather due to O’Brien’s decision to resist. Robinson’s attorney said that O’Brien’s allegations were “unwarranted”.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
