Morris, IL-
Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials have confirmed that an adult male bull shark washed to shore near Morris earlier this week. The 8 foot shark was brought to Springfield for testing and analysis says Illinois state employee Chad Ruiz, "We have confirmed that this was a male bull shark and the DNA matches those of sharks found near the Gulf of Mexico." No obvious cause of death was cited.
This isn't the first time a bull shark has been found in Illinois. Over 50 years ago, a juvenile bull shark was brought to shore near Alton, in the southern part of the state. Scientists have remained firm on the fact that bull sharks are comfortable in both freshwater and saltwater, and most are not entirely surprised by a stray bull shark making its way to northern states. "It's certainly a rare occurrence to find an adult bull shark this far north, but these are some of the most adaptable creatures on the planet."
Officials see this as an isolated incident and have assured locals it is safe to enjoy the water sports that people have participated in for years. Illinois does not plan on changing any safety regulations or providing more in depth probing into the issue, "At this time, we have no reason to believe there are other sharks making it this far north of the Gulf of Mexico. If we see reason later on we may further investigate, but for now we are satisfied."

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
