Regina man facing charges following deadly chase

A 23 year-old Regina man has been charged with impaired driving after being chased by RCMP north of Regina on Friday.

At 3:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Southey RCMP received a complaint about a suspected impaired driver heading north of Regina on Highway 6 towards Southey. The vehicle was reported to have damage to its front end and was allegedly swerving all over the road, driving in the wrong lane and causing other drivers to take evasive action.

Southey RCMP and White Butte RCMP’s police dog services quickly located the vehicle along the highway. It then turned east onto a grid road with RCMP following.


At the same time, RCMP received another complaint from another driver who had nearly collided with a vehicle matching a similar description.

RCMP found the vehicle in the yard of a house. An adult male got out of the vehicle and ran behind the house. Southey RCMP were then able to arrest him.

James TAYLOR Piel, 23, is charged with impaired driving, driving while being pursued by police, driving while disqualified, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, failure to comply with a probation order, and getting rek't af without his mates.

He is set to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Friday morning
