Diana Aubrey Posen, who goes by the name of Aubrey, is no stranger to a courtroom. In fact, she is regarded as one of the top white collar crime lawyers not only in the state but in the country. Upon meeting her, I found this no shock as she appeared calm, cool and collected. But although Posen's career boasts of more wins than any of the counterparts at her firm, she was subject to months of harassment because of her personal life.

"The first piece of information that they got their hands on was that I gave birth to my daughter when I was seventeen," Posen tells me. "I was a single mother and I suppose that even in today's society, that is shunned." Diana shows me a picture of the daughter she's referring to on her phone. They look practically the same, and she smiles when I point that out.

As she continues to show me pictures from a life behind the courtroom doors, she stops on one of her and two women, who are all holding hands. They are Chloe Beale and Beca Mitchell, the two women Posen calls her girlfriends and co-parents to her daughter.
"The media had a party with that one," she laughs. "I suppose I kind of understand it. Being in a relationship with two people isn't something I ever envisioned for myself, I'll admit. But when it happened, I couldn't imagine it being any other way."
I ask Diana if being a gay woman held her back in her career, and she immediately nods.
"Although things are a lot better in this day and age, I still find myself being looked at by my male co-workers like I'm not as smart or educated as they are. I would get called 'honey' and 'sweetheart' a lot, and I even got asked out by someone. When I told them I was gay, it was like all the pleasantries were suddenly put to a stop. Once they realised I wasn't there for their gaze, it kind of became hostile. It can be scary."

Perhaps the scariest element was the newspapers that arose after Posen's personal life was exposed. We look through some of the articles together, pointing out words such as 'unprofessional', which Posen said made her girlfriends laugh considering her rigid work routine. The articles were published by newspapers that had connections to Jupiter Media, a company that was being sued by Posen's firm for money laundering. She tells me that as soon as the connection was made, she took the case to court. It was the right call in the end, as she came out with a comfortable $5.5 million in damages.

"We sat down and decided that we weren't going to blow the money, because it represented something. It showed that in a society that isn't totally accepting, that love can still win. So we donated $3 million to a LGBTQ+ youth charity and then divided the rest between a well deserved vacation and my daughter's college fund."
When I ask what the LGBTQ+ charity means to her, Posen begins to cry. She wipes the tears away with a tissue and collects herself. "It's something that I wish I had when I was young. I spent so much of my youth alone and not knowing how to make sense of what I felt. It makes me so happy that these kids will have someone to talk to. It makes it all worth it."

It's clear from my time speaking to Diana that she is an incredibly hard-working, dedicated and loved person. Finally, I ask her what her plans are. She tells me that she hopes to one day be able to marry her girlfriends and to grow up being a boring old woman. She laughs. It's genuine.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
