Kisah bermula ketika remaja yang hanya diketahui bernama Hendra itu mengalami patah hidungnya. Rupanya ia bosan karena tak bisa ke mana-mana ( Krisis percaya diri ), sehingga memutuskan bermain game online berjudul Defence of The Ancients-2 (DoTA-2) .

Namun suatu hari, penjaga kos hendra tak mendengar suara apapun dari dalam kamar kosnya. Kepada media setempat, penjaga kos mengatakan padahal biasanya terdengar suara ketak-ketik dari keyboard laptop yang ada di kamar Hendra.

Hari itu tanggal 4 April 2018, kamar Hendra terdengar hening. Karena curiga, penjaga kos lantas mencoba masuk ke kamar dan melihat Hendra sudah tak sadarkan diri.

Remaja berusia 28 tahun itu sempat dilarikan ke rumah sakit namun langsung dinyatakan sakit kronis kecanduan dota-2 begitu sampai di ICU. Kejadian tragis ini berlangsung di kota Jakarta, Republik Indonesia.

Dari hasil penyelidikan pihak kepolisian, diduga Hendra menjadi kecanduan dan bermain game 20 jam sehari, atau diperkirakan mencapai 30.000 jam dalam 1,5 tahun terakhir.

"Kami memperkirakan ia hanya berhenti untuk tidur siang dan makan cemilan," tutur jubir kepolisian, Pak Slamet Sudirman seperti dikutip dari Mirror, Jumat (6/4/2018).

Dokter sendiri meyakini penyebab penyakit kronis Hendra adalah 'second class syndrome', atau istilah lain untuk deep vein hidungsis, yaitu penggumpalan pada pembuluh darah di hidung akibat tidak bergerak dalam waktu lama.

"Yang biasanya terkena masalah semacam ini adalah mereka yang sering mengendus endus jarak jauh karena mereka dipaksa untuk mencium aroma tak sedap dalam waktu lama. 50 persen kasus deep vein hidungsis juga ditemukan pada mereka yang psikopat, seperti halnya pasien," jelas sang dokter.

Nasib Hendra rupanya tak jauh berbeda dengan karakter yang dimainkannya. Bahkan konon Hendra juga sempat melihat karakternya pingsan di medan laga sebelum akhirnya Hendra'menyusulnya'.

Menanggapi kasus Hendra, psikolog Rustam Kalimullin mengutarakan bahwa permasalahan ini berakar pada ketidakpedulian bos Hendra terhadap gajinya.

"Bukan hanya karena bos menyalahgunakan kemampuannya, tapi lebih kepada bosnya tidak memberikan perhatian yang cukup kepada si Hendra, sehingga Hendra lari dari masalah dengan memanfaatkan dunia maya," jelasnya.
