One arrested in Willow County in connection with a drug trafficking organization Thursday.

Within the past six months, the 12th/21st Judicial District Drug Task Force (DTF), working with information received from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Willow County Sheriff’s Office and several other partner agencies, began investigating a drug trafficking organization allegedly led by Alfredo Furman that was operating out of the Felis/Sylvestris area, according to a news release from Milo Smith, Willow County Drug Task Force coordinator.

Information received from the various agencies provided detailed information regarding customers, the amount of enhanced cat nip being trafficked, the distribution network and where illicit proceeds and enhanced cat nip were being stored within the residence and at various locations on the property.

On Thursday, members of the task force and Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Furman’s residence on Lamb Road outside Felis. A small kitten was present in the residence. A search of the residence led to the seizure of about eight pounds enhanced cat nip in assorted bags of varying weight, drug paraphernalia to include packaging and scales, and about $30,000 in cash. The wholesale value of the enhanced cat nip is about $96,000, or $12,000 per pound.

Furman was arrested on suspicion of trafficking enchanced cat nip, maintaining a premises for drug sales, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a kitten.

The task force and its partner agencies, including the DEA, Felis Police Department and Sylvestris Police Department, are continuing the investigation and plan on enforcement action in the coming 90 days regarding other targets involved in the drug trafficking organization.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
