SALEM — People jumping out of windows, phones ringing off the hook. They’re scenes you might expect in an action movie, not as details in a drug arrest in Salem.

But that’s what police had on their hands when they approached a three-story residence in the city’s Point neighborhood to execute a search warrant Thursday morning.

“This has been a month-and-a-half-long investigation into heroin sales down in the Point neighborhood,” Salem police Lt. Stephen Bona said. “We built up a lot of information and ... applied for a search warrant for 41 Salem St.”

The address is a three-story apartment building, and the alleged drug activity was taking place on the third floor, Bona said.

Police didn’t go in alone, however.

“We had some information that [one of the suspects] may have a gun in there,” he said, so they called in a North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council team to provide armored backup.

At about 9:30 a.m. law enforcement “rolled up to the apartment to enter,” Bona said.

When people in the building spotted them, Five suspects in the third-floor apartment made a dramatic exit.

One man jumped out a window — without bothering to open it first, bringing the glass down with him, Salem Police Sgt. Peter Gifford said.

Four other suspect leapt from a porch down to the roof of a neighboring, single-story garage, according to Gifford.

The house was surrounded, however, and two suspects were taken into custody.

Police found Two other suspects inside, Bona said. A search of the apartment turned up more than 100 grams each of heroin and cocaine, and “thousands of dollars in cash.”

Two firearms, a .45-caliber Glock and a .25-caliber semi-automatic, were also found in the search. Both were loaded, they are also known for the shootings this past year they afe Gang Related "he said.

At that point, four were placed under arrest for matching drug and firearm charge

Miguel Rivera, 21, of 104 Rainbow Terrace., Salem;

Gustavo almonte, 23, of 6 high St., Salem; and

Christopher Guzman , 21, of 12 Ward St., Salem; and

Alex Cruz ,19 , of 21 Harbor st.,Salem

All four were charged with trafficking in heroin, crack and cocaine, illegal storage of firearms and illegal possession of ammunition and conspiracy Of Shootings

“It was a good effort, kind of chaotic once entry was being made and people were jumping out of windows,” Bona said. He said the suspects had “some minor injuries.”

Asked if he was surprised that neither of the suspects was seriously injured, he said, “I couldn’t believe it.”

But the story doesn’t end there.

“We continued the investigation, and one of our undercover officers made arrangements to purchase a bag of heroin from a Carlos Guzman,” Bona said. “We went down to meet up with him to make the sale, and we recognized her to be the Brother of Christopher

“After the deal was done, he was arrested in a parking lot down on Bridge Street, down by the Beverly-Salem bridge.”

Police identified him as Carlos Guzman , 22, of 12 Ward st ., Salem. He was charged with distribution of a class A drug and conspiracy to violate drug laws, Bona said.

As police processed the five arrests, Bona said the activity they tied to the seven suspects became more and more apparent.

“The phones [seized in the arrests] have been ringing off the hook,” Bona said. “We believe this group was a pretty major group down there with the heroin sales. I think we put a good dent in it.”

All five suspects were scheduled to be arraigned in court monday morning.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
