One Less Gun: Officers Recover Loaded Firearm, Make Arrest After Foot Chase Leads to Violent Struggle in Dorchester

At about 7:34 PM on Sunday October 22 2016, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 486 Quincy Street in Dorchester. The officers were on directed patrol in response to numerous recent incidents involving gang and gun violence when they observed a group of males who were known to them standing in front of Bowdion Street and approached to speak with them. Upon seeing the officers, the group dispersed, with one of the men, Djeisom lumi, 16, of Dorchester, walking much faster than the others with his hands in his pockets while looking back over his shoulder. When the officers called out to the suspect, he immediately took off running with his hands still obscured in his pockets. The officers chased the suspect onto the front porch of 486 Quincy Street where he pulled out a loaded .38 Special Ultra-Lite Taurus Revolver but quickly dropped it. When one of the officers attempted to place the suspect in custody, a violent struggle ensued. While the officer’s attention was focused on the suspect, a second unidentified male approached and attempted to pick up the loaded weapon. A second officer was able to intervene, pushing that suspect off the porch and securing the firearm. The unidentified suspect then fled on foot as the fight with the primary suspect led out onto the street. The suspect (Djeison) struck one of the officers several times before finally slipping out of his sweatshirt and out of the grasp of the determined officer. The suspect then fled again but was quickly located hiding in some unkempt brush in a vacant yard near 34 Clarkson Street where he was placed in custody by additional responding units. It was later revealed that the firearm had been previously reported stolen in Northfield Massachusetts. The identity of the second suspect who interfered and fled the area has not yet been ascertained. The suspect (Djeison) will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Receiving a Stolen Firearm, Resisting Arrest and Assault & Battery on a Police Officer.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
