NEAR WEST SIDE — A 12-year-old girl was shot while standing in a Near West Side restaurant Friday , just days after a massive robbery near the location, according to police and witnesses. The girl was with 2 other kids and an adult at 9:57 p.m. Friday in Golden Fish & Chicken, 2356 W. Jackson Blvd., when two men leaned out of a passing red SUV and opened fire, according to police and Summer Zatar, who co-owns the restaurant. The girl, who was shot in her left leg, was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, said Officer Kevin Quaid, a Chicago Police Department spokesman. According to Zahar, the incident was captured on security cameras, which she said show two Latino men leaning out of the red SUV and opening fire on the restaurant. "I've been watching the footage all night," she said. The shootings happen in the same area every time. That shooting,is involving 2 or 3 people of people, spilled into the busy intersection of Jackson and Western. No arrests were made, even though a police squad car was parked at the scene.The 12 year old is now home and is doing well.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow.
