19-year-old Joliet man is accused of killing a friend with a hammer in Homer Glen and abandoning the male's body in a vehicle, police said.

Thomas Lee Manion, of Eastern Joliet, is charged with four counts of first degree murder and one count of concealing a homicide, according to a Will County sheriff's statement.

Thomas was arrested 11 hours after sheriff deputies discovered the body of Oscar Garrido-Castro, 36, of Joliet, in the back seat of a 2004 GMC Envoy, the statement said.

The two men were "longtime acquaintances" and were together about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Mora Builders, 12145 W. 159th St., in Homer Glen where Thomas is employed, the statement said.

The two men argued about mow much rock cocaine would be consumed, split between eachother, police said.

"The altercation escalated and Thomas struck Garrido-Castro in the head with a hammer and, then strangled him," the police statement said.

Thomas then allegedly drove the vehicle with Garrido-Castro in the back seat to the 1700 Block of Rosalind Avenue, west of Farrell Road, in Joliet Township.

After the vehicle was found, sheriff's investigators learned of the escalating situations between the two men after speaking with Garrido-Castro's family, police said. By 11 p.m., police found Thomas at his home, and he voluntarily cooperated with detectives, the statement said.

"By his own admission, Thomas stated that when he was approached by officers he was on his way to Mexico," the sheriff statement said. "Thomas is an undocumented immigrant and has been issued a temporary visitor's driver's license."

Thomas is being held at Will County jail and will face bond court Wednesday.

Funeral arrangements for Garrido-Castro will be at Delgado Funeral Chapel in Joliet.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
