Clevwland, Ohio (FOX-8) – A CLEVELAND man claimed a $3 million winning Mega Millions ticket from the Ohio Lottery Monday.
Calvin Jones, ofCleveland, purchased the ticket at the shell gas station on Chevrolet Boulevard in Parma Heights Ohio and claimed the multi-million dollar prize at the Dayton regency, according to Marie Kilbane, public information officer for the Ohio Lottery office in Cleveland, who spoke to our partners at Scene magazine
Jones got all five numbers correct in the Mega Millions, Kilbane said. However, he missed the jackpot of the July 26 drawing because he did not get the mega ball number correct. Jones also has purchased a Megaplier ticket for an extra $1, which multiplies the amount of the prize to be awarded, tripling his winnings, according to the Plain Dealer
The odds of winning this prize, according to the lottery’s website, are one in 18,492,204.
Jones went to the Shell gas station to confirm it was a winner, and then went to the Dayton regional office to continue the process of claiming his prize, Kilbane said.
By law, the Ohio Lottery must take 25 percent in federal taxes and 4 percent in state taxes from the prize money before Riddle can receive his one-time payout, which will be $2.13 million, Kilbane said.
“He seems to be a very nice man,” Kilband said. “My understanding is that he came up with the numbers using a combination of his kids’ ages.”
Kilbane said Jones is a 2-year lottery player who said he likely would continue to play, according to the Plain dealer.
Kilbane said Jones will receive his payout out in about three weeks.
“He plans to use a small portion of it to take his family on vacation,” Kilbane said. “We wish him congratulations.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild.
