Dayton, OH (WBRC) -

Investigators say they were notified in February 2015 by Regions Bank of a point of sale compromise in various Eyeglass Retail stores .

Information from customers was used in a network of credit and debit card fraud across the entire United States, with a large concentration along I-95 Dayton, OH to Newark, NJ

Authorities believe a Pearl Vision in north Essex County unknowingly had its credit card system hacked into with a malware virus.

Customers would come in, pay for their glasses with a debit or credit card. But when their card was swiped, the virus would steal the card holder's account information and send it to an offsite company.

Authorities say the alleged collected hundreds of accounts, then sold them in batches online. Police believe six suspects bought some of those batches, then made fake credit cards with the stolen account numbers and used them to purchase gift cards.

In all, Dayton police think between 200 to 500 cards were comprimised, but other jurisdictions are investigating similar claims, so there could be even more victims."

Police believe the suspects used the gift cards bought with the fake credit cards to make everyday purchases

"It's an easy, non-violent way to make a large amount of money in a short amount of time without physically coming in contact or violently coming in contact to obtain that money fraudulently," Dayton police detective Chris Clark said.

The investigation yielded 164 felony warrants. The suspects, as listed by Essex County police, are:

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
