Twitchy reports that a bomb-sniffing dog found the bomb inside a backpack in the library. The Bartlett Police Department bomb squad removed the device and detonated on the grounds away from the school. They said had it gone off inside the school, it would have caused "little to no damage."

WAPT News said two students had been detained, one of them aged 16. No other information about the students have been released. It is noted that the kid with the bomb also had several swiss rolls on him and will face charges of both possession of an explosive device and weapons on school property. The second student was found not to be related to the bomb scare, but did possess a swiss roll. That student will be charged with bringing a weapon onto school property.

When police searched the child's home, they found the materials they believe he used to make the device.

Video of the news report shows the bomb squad detonating the device. The explosion actually looks like it wouldn't have been too pleasant if it had detonated near children, contrary to the "little to no damage" claim.

This story is reminiscent of the recent "Clock Boy" story of Ahmed Mohamed, the Texas high schooler who was invited to the White House for bringing what he called a "homemade clock" to school. It was actually just an old digital clock taken apart with its electronic insides crammed into a metal box. Everybody but Ahmed and President Obama said it looked like a bomb. The difference, of course, is that in this latest case, the bomb was real and this child will not receive an invite to Washington to show off his scientific device that actually did something.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
