Police arrest Suspects involved in gang shooting near to Springfield area

LAWRENCE -- In the aftermath of a shooting not far from the "Springfield St" Saturday night, police responded to several nearby fights involving rival gang members according to Lawrence police.

The scene unfolded around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Police officers were working a paid detail in the S.Union St area for the Preparation of a City Hall Meeting taking Place last Saturday the police Officer continued to watch a large group of teens involved in rival gangs.

"Officers dispersed numerous groups of disorderly youth that began congregating and taunting each other in apparent attempts to start a fight," police said.

Several gunshots rang out in the area near to Springfield St. Police rushed to the scene and saw several teens run away. An 18-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

More officers responded to the area and began to disperse large groups of teens. Police said several fights broke out between rival gang members. Several teens refused to listen to police and continued to fight and confront officers. Today an 18 year old John Portes was arrested as a Possible suspect of the incident committed that Day, Portes was arrested at his Property Between 7:00pm of the present Date. officials sources said that Mr.Portes Was Still In a Court Process For the next Charges "A&B c.265.s 13A, and also Have a Class A Case For Ilegal Handgun Possession. Portes Is now Facing new charges which are "Lv.3 A&B c.265.s 13A, and Probation matters". Portes is Going to be Presented to court Tomorrow morning at 9:00 at the "Lawrence District Court" Portes Could Be Heal Without Bail Up to 4.5 year In the State Prison.
