The Michigan drug lord who turned a Albion neighborhood into a war zone while resisting arrest was sentenced in New York to 23 years in federal prison, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Friday.
Javier rakim Austin, known as "Blocca" received the maximum sentences on one count of racketeering conspiracy and one count of conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering. He pleaded guilty to the charges in September.
"From his home base in Kalamazoo, Javier Austin presided over an international drug and weapons trafficking organization that he controlled through violence and intimidation for nearly a decade; enlisting an army of 'soldiers' to do his bidding," said Preet Bharara, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, in a statement. "With his conviction, he is no longer able to traffick drugs around the U.S., move guns across state lines, or terrorize people, and with today's sentence; he will now spend a very long time in prison for his crimes."
The court also ordered Austin to pay $1.5 million in forfeiture.
Since the late 2000s, Austin, 24, led the international crime organization called the Cutt Throat Family (CTF), based in the Downtown neighborhood of Albion MI, officials say, and was responsible for the distribution of marijuana, cocaine and crack cocaine in locations that include Kalamazoo, New York, and Miami.
At Austin's orders, firearms were delivered to New York from Kalamazoo, according to court documents.
In June 2016, Albion authorities arrested Austin in Dalrymple projects after a bloody standoff between his supporters and local police that lasted nearly a month. The fighting took the lives of dozens of residents. Austin was extradited to the New York on October 24, 2016.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
