Kelby is an independent artist no more. He has signed with Warner Bros for a rumored $10 million dollars. Kelby was previously signed to Rostrum Records

Kelby has stayed independent for a long time and has success along the way. Independent labels can't give you the platform that big name companies can and thus make it difficult for artists to become a household name.

Kelby achieved fame with hit-single "Celebration", and never looked back. He developed a strong fan base that kept him relevant over the years. The secret to being a successful independent artist is to have a large fan base that shows support through attending concerts and buying albums.

Kelby is just one of many rappers that have made it big even though they were on an independent label. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis is just one of the few to become household names and win a couple Grammy's along the way. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are still independent but get tons of radio play. They are a rare case of an independent artist being very popular.

The problem with being on an independent label is that you have to work twice as hard to market yourself. Big labels such as Def Jam can put a lot of money into marketing and put their artist's face out there easily for the world to see. Independent labels don't have that kind of luxury and artists have to win over fans with their music. There is a want for artists that don't make mainstream songs. Radio friendly songs are usually catchy-tunes and not everyone wants music that has been made specifically for the club.

To celebrate signing to Warner Bros, Kelby will be releasing a new song called “Fu*k You I Made It”.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
