Recently students at NIU have been protesting police violence through the Black Lives Matter movement. Hundreds of students gathered in the MLK Commons and started a rally, and then proceeded to march through campus, making a stop outside of Cole Hall. Here protesters laid on the ground in garbage bags, representing victims of police violence. There were so many protesters that they covered the ground, leaving little space for other students walk to get to class.

One student, who wishes to remain anonymous, claimed "There were so many of them on the ground that I couldn't make it over to Dusable. I was late for my exam man." With hundreds of students blocking the paths of their fellow students, there was outrage amongst others, upset that they couldn't make it to their classes. Another student commented, "It's not fair to the rest of the students who are trying to make it to class on time. Just because they're not going to class doesn't mean that they should keep us from our classes."

NIU has threatened to fine students who block the pathways of their fellow students trying to get to class and president Doug Baker chimed in on the issue, "I think that peaceful protest is great, but there has to be another way. You can't just litter the ground, impeding everyone from getting to their classes. Students found blocking the paths of students trying to get to class will have to be subject to fines deemed appropriate by campus police."

Has the BLM movement gone too far? Are people just intolerant of the movement?

More to come on this issue facing a divided student population on campus.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
