It was early evening at approximately 7:30pm on Saturday, August 13th, when driver, Baron Ahmad Permenter, 48, was spotted by Southampton Police officer, Sgt. Buchanan, speeding eastbound on Long Island Expressway (495). Baron was observed by radar, traveling at an incredible speed of 178 mph in a Yellow 2003 Z06 Corvette.
Sgt. Buchanan explains, "I was sitting in the patrol car when I observed headlights approaching at a great rate of speed. It was almost like it was in a movie. I already had the radar gun out aiming at vehicles that had passed a little earlier. Traffic was rather light."
Sgt Buchanan paused and took a deep breath.
"I was really in fear of my life because I didn't have time to react if the car came toward me. As it passed, it shook the car violently and caused the coffee I had to come off the dash and into my lap. I looked at the radar gun and said what the ****. I radioed ahead as fast as I can and before I knew it the car was out of sight. There was nothing. Not one light could be seen."
As Sgt. Buchanan was speaking, you can visibly see how shaken he was from reliving a story that has forever changed his life in the department. Mr. Permenter was spotted later at a local 711 in Southampton after an APB had been put out. Mr. Permenter was walking out and spotted surrounding officers and tried to run into his car. He was seen on camera fighting with the officers and resisting arrest. After detaining Mr. Permenter, he was taking to Riverhead County Correctional Facility. What some witnesses were saying was unnecessary force, they said Mr. Permenter got the best of the officers.
John Brown who was a witness at the scene described what happened.
"It was crazy. This dude started running out of the store and Po Po started surrounding him. He slung open his door and hit the officer, and the office fell down. He started fighting the other cops and they couldn't do anything with him. The finally pulled that taser out and shocked his ass."
Mr. Permenter was held on a $5,000 bail which he posted the next day and got out of the Riverhead County Correctional Facility. After several court visits and a case that seem all to unreal - the duty of an officer to do his job was not done, and set Mr.Permenter free of charges. The arresting officer did not read Mr. Permenter his rights. Mr. Permenter was in court today as the judge, Hon. Ken Pollack, granted a not guilty verdict in Mr. Permenter's release.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
