The National Guard in Tucumcari, New Mexico are racing to establish an effective quarantine of the city after an extremely virulent strain of herpes simplex two was discovered that has a mutation which allows it to survive in the air. Herpes simplex two, previously known as genital herpes, typically can only be passed from one person to another through breaches in the skin's surface due to lesions, wounds, etc. There it attaches itself to the base of a nerve where it makes its home, periodically traveling to the tip of the nerve where it replicates, causing clusters of blisters to form which eventually erupt leaving painful ulcers. The mutated virus, currently being called HPX-5, had developed a protein barrier which protects it when outside of the body in the open air. While the virus is normally site specific, this newest strain enters the blood through capillaries in the lungs, quickly spreading throughout the body where it attaches to any nerves it comes in contact with, resulting in violent blisters covering the victim's entire body, including the inside of the lungs, causing suffocation and possible death. Fourteen cases have been reported, eleven of which were fatal. The three remaining have been described as being in critical condition. As the incubation period for the virus can be between seven and fourteen days, the Centers for Disease Control has advised residents to stay in their homes. CDC virologist, Dr. Karen McKinley told news sources this morning that, "Despite having no outward symptoms, anyone could be carrying this virus. The victims that have been diagnosed were interacting within their community four weeks, possibly spreading the virus. The ninth victim was a cafeteria worker at the Tucumcari elementary school. We have no information at this time as to how far this has spread or if it has made its way out of this community." The CDC advises any persons experiencing sinus or chest congestion, cough, joint pain, numbness, or rash on any part of the body to immediately call 911.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
