HOUSTON, TX. -
Five Pit Bull dogs were the last ones out of a W. 28th St. home Tuesday evening, survivors of what Brazoria County Police are calling a dog fighting ring.

"Living conditions were not good," said Lisa Stiles, chief investigating officer for the Humane Society of South TX. "A couple of dogs were housed in really small crates in the basement, fecal matter all over the floors along with urine."

Tuesday's raid, ended up with the dog's owner in police custody, Gabriel Williams, 41. He is charged with three felony counts of dog fighting and 14 animal cruelty counts, among other charges.

This, after police were called to the same residence in the 1000 block of W. 28th St. Monday night for reports of dog fighting.

Altogether, thirteen dogs, including four puppies were removed from the home.

"There was a chain in the backyard with some fresh blood on it," said Nicole Bawol, Humane Society executive director. "There was a bucket that had some dried up blood around it."

Inside the home, investigators say they found three different rooms where that dog fighting allegedly took place, including fresh paint on the walls to cover up any blood.

"Medication, syringes, a treadmill inside," said Stiles. "So a lot of things you see in the dog fighting world were found inside this home."

One neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous, tells us she suspected Swift ran a dog-fighting ring ever since she moved into the area more than a year ago.

"Constant crying, screaming from inside the house, in the basement, the backyard," she recalled.

In the backyard, caged dogs, tow chains and other devices around them are visible. Some dogs recovered Monday night are injured, likely from the fights, Bawol said, but there is hope for the others.

"All of the dogs taken out of the home (Tuesday), as of right now, look like they're of good weight," she said. "But we do need to have our veterinarian examine them appropriately."

The dogs left their home, as the investigation into what happened while they were there continues.

The ANNA Shelter also took some of the dogs Monday night.

Swift is also charged with a pair of misdemeanors, including possession of animal fighting paraphernalia.

One dog and additional paraphernalia that were in the home last night, were not able to be found today, Bawol added.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
