A 17year-old teen who was shot and killed by local gang members was suspected as a "gang attack" Quincy Police Department said earlier tonight.

The Quincy teenager was identified as Jose Raminez who who turned 17 on July 30th according to QPD.

According to QPD Deputy Chief Robert Arcos, gang detail officers assigned to the city of Quincy had received a call around 10:45 p.m. earlier tonight of two suspects involved in possible “gang shooting” and narcotics activity near 3rd Avenue SE.

A Gang member fatally shot an unarmed teen following a short foot pursuit near D st SE.

The suspects were described as being between 17 and 20 year old men and when officers arrived, one of the youths ran east on 3rd Ave SE. and then south onto a gas station.

“According to a witness, they saw the subject running from the officers. The witnesses saw the subject shoot a handgun in the direction of the pursuing officers,” witnesses told QPD.

Witnesses say they heard a gunshot, they said. When they arrived at the corner, one of the gang members had fired at the boy, killing him. “While the loss of life is particularly tragic, it is particularly so when the loss involves a youth,” QPD said. “The tragedy of this event cannot be understated. In a community where violent crime continues to rise, particularly gang crime, this event underscores the need for youth programs and outreach, which could provide opportunities and alternatives for the youth of our community.”

The officers were wearing body cameras, he said. Investigators are still reviewing videos, which will be compared with other evidence, including witness and officer statements.

Police had initially identified the suspect as a man in his 20s, winitness told investigators and are now looking for a 3rd suspect.

No officers were injured in the pursuit or shooting, which happened in the South East side of the neighborhood.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
