Yes, you did not misread that. A Hindu-American male has been arrested for shooting himself purposely in his groin area. Varun Shivkumar (23) of Hasbrouck Heights,NJ is in custody today at the Hackensack University Medical Center with non life threatening injuries. According to local neighbors, a loud gun shot was heard around 3 am Monday morning , apparently Mr.Shivkumar had been trying to avoid sexual activities with his long time girlfriend who had been drunk with a lot of emotions. "We are not sure on what prompted Mr. Shivkumar to commit such an act, especially to harm himself in such ways but with him alive we definitely want to do everything we can to help him and prevent such acts from happening again" said Detective Colaneri from the Hasbrouck Heights police department. Mr. Shivkumar will be held at the HUMC till further notice.
