A 30 year old man from Hammond, IN was arrested this afternoon after leading police on a high-speed chase through the city in his 1995 Geo Prizm. The incident started when police attempted to pull the man, now identified as Justin Smith of Hammond, IN, over for failure to stop at a red light at Summer St. and Indianapolis Blvd. after leaving the Pick N' Pull junkyard. Officers on scene stated that Justin accelerated after they attempted to stop him and headed for the 80/94 expressway. According to the officers, Justin was hitting speeds of 70 MPH on Indianapolis. Once he was heading westbound on the expressway officers stated that Justin reached speeds of over 150 MPH. Officer Mendez of the Indiana State Police joined in on the chase at the Burr Street on ramp and was finally able to stop Justin's vehicle with a roadblock as he attempted to exit the highway at the Ripley Street exit in Lake Station. Mendez said that was the fastest he had ever seen a car like that go in his 22 year career. Justin is being held on several felony and misdemeanor charges including felony evasion, felony speeding and reckless driving, and failure to register vehicle. Acording to Mendez the vehicle had so many modifications it couldn't legally be registered in the state and he believes this may have been the reason Justin initially ran. There were no drugs or alcohol in Justin's system at the time of arrest.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
