There has been a lot of speculation on what really happened on July 15, 1958 in that charming home on Emory Lane. Knox County Sheriff’s Department has refused to shed any light on a mystery that has plagued the small town of Powell for nearly a decade. They claim this investigation is still ongoing.

Jonathan Stevens and his fiancé Andrea Barnett were to be married the following spring. They purchased this home from the original owners in May of 1958 with the hopes and aspirations of this being the home they raise their kid in, grow old together and live a long and prosperous life in. Those dream came to an abrupt halt just a few months later on the night of July 15th, 1958.

Like many young men, Jonathan worked an exasperating number of hours in efforts to build the nest egg so he and his soon to be bride, Andrea could start a family after they wed the following spring. At approximately 10:15 pm, Knox County Sheriffs Deputies responded to their home after a concerned neighbor came to the precinct to report screams and what sounded like gunshots coming from their home.

Upon arrival, it was reported that deputies found both in the living room unresponsive. Medical personnel were seen entering the home a short time after the deputy’s arrival. The county coroner was witnessed entering the home and then making two trips in and out of the home with what appeared to be a body on a gurney.

Nobody knew for certain who it was or what happened. Speculations were made but nothing could be proven on who it actually was or what really happened. The Sheriff’s department refused to make any statements. They stayed the course of the statement that it is an ongoing investigation and will not comment for concerns of it hampering their investigation.
We do know that both Jonathan and Andrea were never heard or see of again. The house on 3919 West Emory Road was vacant for two years and was purchased in the fall of 1960. The new owners only lived there for two months and decided to rent it out. The first renters only lived there for three months and sold it. Since 1958, the home had 8 different renters, all who claimed that the house was haunted.

Could this be the ghosts of Jonathan and Andrea? Why has the Sheriff’s department has kept such a tight lid on this case and is refusing to offer the public any information on what really happened that night? Did a vagrant passing by take the lives of these two? Was is a crime of passion that ended bad? Many tales have floated around for the past decade, but nobody can shed any light on what really happened. To this day, the house remains vacant because people believe the house is actually haunted and the mystery of what happened to Jonathan and Andrea has yet to be solved.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
